Clannad And Moya Brennan On "Music Of Ireland" (Update)

As posted earlier Moya Brennan is hosting "Music of Ireland – Welcome Home" a two-part music special celebrating 50 years of contemporary Irish music, to be aired in March 2010. This documentary contains never-before-seen performances by Clannad and Moya Brennan and many more Irish artists. The companion CD/DVD features, among other artists, new material by Moya Brennan. The songs are "Lullaby For The Dead", "Forgotten", "You're The One" and "Is Mise 'n Ghaoth/The Lass Of Aughrim". On the cd is also a a special track by Anúna featuring Moya Brennan and Afro Celt Sound System’s Iarla Ó Lionáird. Read more on the WLIW website

Moya Brennan Supports Haiti (Update)

Moya Brennan is one of the artists at a multi-cultural evening of music and readings to raise money for the relief effort in Haiti. Hosted by Irish American Writers & Artists, Inc. (IAW&A), the Wed., Feb. 24th event gets underway at 7:00 pm sharp at Klub 45, the music venue above Connolly’s Pub on West 45th Street New York. Musical guests include Moya Brennan, Ashley Davis, Black 47, Jameson’s Revenge, Morning Star, Clay Ross & Matuto, Seanchai and Unity Squad, as well as a Haitian band Brother High Kanaval and Creole jazz band Mozajik. Readers will include National Book Award winner Colum McCann, Amy Goodman of Democracy Now, Malachy McCourt, T.J. English, Michael Patrick MacDonald and others. Also visit the IAW&A blog.

Moya Brennan On Donegal Collection Album (Update)

The Rann na Feirste community is celebrating its musical tradition and culture with a new CD called "Ceol Cheann Dubhrann", to benefit the local national school and community centre. The album contains old Donegal traditional songs. Moya Brennan, on the album using her birth name Máire Ní Bhraonáin, sings the title track, "Ceol Cheann Dubhrann".
The CD will be launched at Tábhairne Leo, Mín na Leice, at 8pm on Saturday, December 12. The CD will be available in shops in Gaoth Dobhair and the Rosses from Saturday and a free copy of the CD will also be provided to each household in the townland of Rann na Feirste. Moya Brennan Performs On Flower Show

Moya Brennan is part of a series of special programs hosted by Tourism Ireland, at the 2010 Philadelphia International Flower Show, taking place February 28 - March 7, celebrating the horticulture, culinary arts and music of the Emerald Isle. At noon, 2 and 4 PM on February 28, Moya Brennan will perform at Tourism Ireland’s exhibit in Hall A. On March 1 Moya Brennan performs at the Irish garden exhibit at noon, 1:30 and 3 PM.

T With The M's, a group formed by Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill (The Bothy Band, Nightnoise and other bands), Moya Brennan (Clannad and her own band), Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (Altan) and Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill (Skara Brae and solo) now has it's own website on line. Go there to register, or visit their Facebook including a video of the group on a Donegal beach, filming for the PBS series "Music of Ireland: Welcome Home". Moya Brennan On Easter Service Red Rocks

Moya Brennan, accompanied by harpist Cormac de Barra, will perform two songs at the 63rd annual Easter Sunrise Service held at the Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheater on Sunday, April 4. Music begins at 6:00 AM. Gates at Red Rocks will open at 4:30 AM. This is an outdoor service so dress warmly!
Briar Branch, a bluegrass group made up of Discipes of Christ clergy and families, will open the service with upbeat and celebrative music. Women of Note from St. Luke's UMC under the direction of Dr. Jim Ramsey will return from last year's service.

Traditional Irish love songs don’t always have happy endings. This presents a challenge for the Celtic ensemble RUNA, whose upcoming performance in Titusville falls on the eve of Valentine’s Day. Read the real-life love story of two members of the band, Shannon Lambert-Ryan and Fionán de Barra who got married last April 2009. Go maire tú an lá!
RUNA are Shannon Lambert-Ryan - Vocals, Fionán de Barra - Guitar an Cheryl Prashker -Percussion. Fionán also plays on guitar/vocals in Moya Brennans band.

Moya Brennan is hosting "Music of Ireland – Welcome Home" a two-part music special celebrating 50 years of contemporary Irish music. Part one (1:29 hrs) features intimate performances and exclusive interviews from many Irish artists like The Chieftains, The Clancy Brothers, U2, The Dubliners, Riverdance, Bob Geldof and many others. A companion CD and DVD will be available at Barnes&Noble. Part one airs in March e.g. March 2 at 9PM on WLIW21 (With an exclusive New York metro area sneak preview on February 17 9.30PM on WLIW21) followed by part two in August. Check your local listings and watch the promo video on the official website.
Update: You can pre-order the cd (release 2 March) at Barnes&Noble. The show now airs throughout the PBS network in the US, with plans to then release it worldwide.

Sinead Madden Releases First Single

Sinead Madden has announced that a first single called "Impossible Dream" will be released soon. The song is taken from Sineads first solo album "Honey Promises" that was launched in May 2009. Sinead is also on fiddle and voice in Moya Brennan's band. For more visit her website.

Moya Brennan US Concerts & Duets CD (Update 6/2)

Moya Brennan will visit the US again coming April, i suppose to support and promote her upcoming PBS show and duets cd. Rumour has it that the PBS show will debut March 2010 and air throughout the PBS network in the US, with plans to then release it worldwide. Along with the documentary there will be a companion CD release, which will feature a number of the artists and musicians from the film.
So far these concerts are planned: 8 april 2010 at 8PM at the venue Barns At Wolf Trap in Vienna VA. (TICKETS) and 9 april 2010 at 8PM at the Sellersville Theatre 1894 in Sellersville PA. (TICKETS) Stay tuned for more.
Update: Another concert has been added: 28 March 2010 8PM at the Regent Theater in Arlington MA. This is gonna be a long tour!
Update 6/2: There's gonna be another concert in Denver CO at the Williams Hall on 3 April 2010.

No Grammy For Artwork Enya Album

As posted earlier, the artwork of the Enya album "And Winter Came" was nominated for a Grammy in the category "Best Album Cover". Alas, there was no new Grammy for Enya at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards that took place on January 31, 2010 in Los Angeles. Enya has won 4 Grammy's already for her albums "Sheperd Moons" (1993), The Memory Of Trees (1997), A Day Without Rain (2002) and Amarantine (2007).

Moya Brennan On New Chieftains Album (Update 27/1)

The musical souls of two nations, Ireland and Mexico, are movingly brought to life in "San Patricio" the latest album by The Chieftains and co-produced by Ry Cooder. "San Patricio" describes the Saint Patrick's Battalion, who fought as part of the Mexican Army against the United States in the Mexican-American War of 1846 to 1848. Songs were contributed by New York-based Mexican singer Lila Downs, Linda Ronstadt and Clannad’s Moya Brennan (Lullaby for the Dead). The Chieftains featuring Ry Cooder play at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on January 26, 2010. Moya Brennan and Dublin-based Scots Gaelic singer Alyth McCormick will be at the concert. The album is planned to be released on March 9, 2010.

Happy birthday for Clannad founders Noel and Pádraig Duggan, who are celebrating their birthday this saturday. Being a twin, born on 23 January 1949, they've reached the age of 61! Any idea how they looked in their younger days, let's say about 26 years ago? Ok, then have a look at this video. Noel and Pádraig, many happy returns, have a nice party, Sláinte!

Clannad Producer Passes Away

Tony Clarke, producer of Clannad's 1984 landmark album Legend, passed away in Brighton, UK on January 4, 2010 at the age of 68. He was known as the "sixth Moody Blue" and one of the few white record producers to work in Motown. Tony Clarke was best known to work with the Moody Blues, but also with artists like Clannad, the Four Tops and Rick Wakeman. Backgrounds on Tony Clarke can be found here 1, 2.

Moya Brennan Duets With Sharon Kips (Update)

Sharon Kips, a Dutch singer who won the talent contest X-factor in 2007, released her new album on 14 December. The album is titled "Love Will Bring You Home". It's a nice album with up tempo songs and ballads. And surprise surprise, there's a bonus track on the album, a very nice Celtic song called "Coming Home" together with Moya Brennan. Clannad Live Singing Mháire Bruineall

Thanx to Sportymike we can watch a very nice video of the original Clannad members, while singing the Gaelic song "Mháire Bruineall" on the Irish chat show Ardán, broadcasted by TG4. I'm not sure from what year the vid is, but it's one of the rare occasions to see Moya, Pádraig, Noel, Ciarán and Pól together in a live show. Go to Sportymike's channel on Youtube for more.

Moya Brennan Concerts New York (Update 29/12)

Moya Brennan has planned some concerts in the USA, New York in the beginning of 2010. According to some sources we're talking about 7,8,9 january 2010. One of the concerts will be at the venue the Town Crier Cafe, Pawling, New York on 8 january at 8.30PM. Tickets cost $35 or $40 at the door. More venues to follow, stay tuned.
Update:Moya will be doing two showcases at the APAP (Association of Performing Arts Presenters) conference on saturday 9 january 2010 at 5.10PM and 11.25PM in the New York suite of the New York Hilton.

Enya Exclusive Interview Eurochannel

On 10 January 2010, Eurochannel broadcasts a special music program on Enya and the release of her latest album "The Very Best Of Enya". Enya will be interviewed and also video clips will be shown. Moya Brennan and band will bring An Irish Christmas home to Dublin with a seasonal fundraising concert. Special guests are the traditional music groups of Craobh Phiarais Ui Ghreagain. The event takes place on thursday 17th december at 7.30PM in the Monkstown Paris church and will be presented by Blathnaid Ní Chofaigh. Tickets cost 15/10 euro and can be ordered here.

Moya Brennans Music In Religious Movie

In 2006 the film documentary "The Call to Fatima" was released. According to a press release the documentary also includes the music recordings by Moya Brennan and is now worldwide available in a two dvd-set. Both dvd's are based on Sister Lucia’s last known writings entitled "Calls" from the Message of Fatima. The film contains footage filmed inside the Carmel where Sr. Lucia lived and is set to the many beautiful musical arrangements of Ireland’s Moya Brennan. The DVD release in North America coincided with the release of Moya Brennan’s "An Irish Christmas Album" in 2006. So far, for me unknown is what music is on the dvd. Are there Christmas tunes or other? If you have more information, please pass it through at info at clannad.nl.
